Rosberg Racing Academy’s Taylor Barnard (KR/IAME) remained unbeaten for the second season running in the WSK Champions Cup thanks to a dominating victory in OK’s final race. Having won the Prefinal B, the Brit started from pole position but chose the external line on the grid’s front row in a switch with the Brazilian Rafael Camara (Exprit/TM).

The decision paid off for Barnard who took the best start ahead of Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Harry Thompson (KR/IAME), both storming past Camara having a hard time containing his rivals in the opening laps.

The 20 lap-race turned into a demonstration from Barnard who took advantage of the battle for second place raging between Thompson and Bedrin to build a gap and not be seen again. Further back, Thompson, who had the upper hand on his Russian rival, was caught up by Josep Marti Sobrepera (KR/IAME) whose strong start had put him in contention early on in the race.

The Spaniard, driving the new Alonso Kart / Kart Republic chassis, dived past the new Sauber Karting Team driver a few laps from the finish to secure the podium’s second step ahead of a returning Kirill Smal (Energy/TM).

While he thought he had lost the podium for good, Thompson eventually inherited third place after Sobrepera was disqualified for technical non-conformity. Smal was, therefore, promoted to second position in front of Thompson, Bedrin and Mattheus Morgatto (Parolin/TM) who pulled off 21 overtaking moves to inter the Top Five! Camara, who had crossed the line in fifth place, was classified 11th due to a five-second penalty for an incorrect front fairing position.
