As the weather conditions went from rainy to sunny through the course of the qualifying races between Thursday and Friday, Kenneth Chung, the most experienced member of the trio representing Hong Kong with CRG this weekend, carried out his positive momentum putting on a strong result in his last heat which secured his qualification for the Prefinal and Final of the X30 Master class.

Kenneth Chung: “Only three Veterans, over 45 years old, are qualified in the Final and I’m one of them! I’ll start from 31st on the grid, this won’t be easy but I’ll try another set-up in the morning’s warm-up to maximize all my chances. My goal is to be the Veteran Champion and I’ll give it my very best!”

For his fourth participation in the IAME International Final, Dick Yu showed a promising pace while putting a lot of effort into his run of qualifying races. In his constant charge through the field and the elements, luck wasn’t always on the 16-year-old’s side but having to fight in mixed conditions against lots of different drivers will remain a much enriching experience.

Dick Yu: “It was good to be able to fight with drivers and teams from different countries. Although the end result is far from my initial expectations, it’s not often that I get to learn new driving skills from the battles I had in both dry and wet conditions. If there’s another possibility for me to come back next year, I hope I’ll be able to improve on my results!”

Entering the peak-event of IAME’s worldwide racing calendar for the first time, Michael Yuen wasn’t helped by the constantly-changing conditions in some of his qualifying heats. Still, the youngest driver of the team saw the chequered flag in all of his races, battling hard in the midfield where he made up several positions. Despite his journey to Le Mans coming to a premature end in the Final C, Michael reached his target in gaining a lot more experience in his first top-level race on the international scene, adding to his previous six months spent behind the wheel of a go-kart.

Michael Yuen: “Despite a weekend of ups and downs with results not as I anticipated, it was a very valuable experience for me to come to Le Mans! These European weather conditions were changing every minute, going from wet to dry, but it was also enriching to fight against and learn from those drivers in those tricky conditions. You don’t normally get this sort of experience in China or Asia. Therefore, if it’s possible for me to come here next year, I hope I can fight for a higher position and learn even more! I would also like to thank Creative Secondary School for their kindness to support in this adventure!”
