The grassroots of motorsport

Karting is the first step toward Formula 1, and the Champions of the Future Academy Program is a key platform for young drivers. Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team and Kick Sauber, actively scout talent here. Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team Driver Development Advisor Gwen Lagrue explains: “We have set up a partnership with the Champions of the Future Academy Program. I like the championship and format, it gives us a great opportunity to see kids race who we don’t usually see on track.” “It’s affordable, fair, and the racing is outstanding,” adds Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff. Kick Sauber’s Alan McNish confirms: “Karting remains the best place to find the next generation of Formula 1 drivers.” With races in Europe and the Middle East, the program is expanding access to global talent, and diversifying karting competition.

Discover your drive with F1 Academy
The program’s partnership with Formula 1 Academy continues to push diversity in motorsport. Building on last year’s record breaking number of female entries, nine drivers will be selected across three categories to race in Formula 1 Academy colors, receiving career advice and support throughout their season with the F1 Academy: Discover your Drive Program. The selection of the 2025 F1 Academy backed drivers has been made, with more news to follow!

Previous F1 Academy backed driver Luna Fluxa Cross, 2024 OK-N Senior Champion, proves how this opportunity helps write success stories. Angelina Simons, Victoria Farfus, and Ava Lawrence also made their mark, while Sara Matsui grabbed a standout pole at Al Ain. “This program showcases raw talent and helps us nurture future stars,” says Formula 1 Academy Managing Director Susie Wolff.

Motorsport Performance Academy
Adding to the above-mentioned partnerships, the Motorsport Performance Academy focuses on complete driver development. In 2024, the top non-Formula 1 Academy Senior driver earned a Formula 4 test, while the Junior leader won a chance to test a Legend car.

As the 2025 season is nearing its first race, the Champions of the Future Academy Program continues to be a launchpad for the next generation of motorsport talent. With increasing involvement from Formula 1 teams and academies, the road to the top has never been clearer.
