60 Mini: Powell ends on a high note

Starting from pole position, Alex Powell (Energy / TM) got the best getaway at the green light to lead the ten laps of the Mini Final on Sunday afternoon. Already winning his entire round of Qualifying Heats on Saturday (click here to read our report and results), then the winner of the Prefinal A, the young Jamaican let no one else grabbing the victory in the weekend’s final race, 1.6 seconds clear from the rest of the pack. In the second place, Italy’s Brandon Badoer (Parolin / TM) kept Coskun Irfan (Parolin / TM) at bay for just 0.038 of a second, followed not far behind in P4 by his Baby Race teammate Ean Eyckmans (Parolin / TM). Nikola Tsolov (Birel ART / TM) made up three places to close up the top 5.

OKJ: Barnard leads KR’s Sunny Sunday

As the Junior class introduced the show this morning, Taylor Barnard (KR / Parilla) seemed to have got up on the right foot by winning the Prefinal A, a back-in-business result after some ups and down through the Qualifying Heats. At the green light, the young Brit took the best out of his pole position by pulling away in the lead, quickly helped in that purpose by some racing drama further back when 15 drivers got caught up in an incident in the third lap of the race! With a 5-second gap, the Rosberg Racing protege took the chequered flag in front of Friday’s pole-sitter Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart / Vortex). The last step of the podium was inherited by Kirill Smal (Tony Kart / Vortex) after a post-race penalty pushed Parolin’s Gabriele Mini’ back to P7. Following in fourth was one of the weekend’s revelations Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR / Parilla) in front of his KR’s teammate Sebastian Gravlund (KR / Parilla).

OK: Travisanutto unreachable

Italy’s Lorenzo Travisanutto (KR / Parilla) kept his opponents at bay to win the Final race of the weekend in the OK class. Quickly building his gap from the start, the Rosberg Racing Senior took advantage of the close fight opposing Kas Haverkort (CRG / TM), the winner of the Prefinal B, and Luigi Coluccio (Birel ART / TM), both pulling clear from the pack where Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG / TM) gained four positions in front of an impressive list of names. Tijmen Van Der Helm (KR / Parilla) came back home in fifth, followed by Dexter Patterson (KR / Parilla), 2017 Final Cup winner’s Nicklas Nielsen (Praga / Vortex) with Zane Maloney (FA Kart / Vortex), Hugo Sasse (KR / Parilla) and Harry Thompson (FA Kart / Vortex) closing up the top 10.

KZ2: Lammers on the edge

Winning all of his Qualifying Heats, the Prefinal A and starting on pole for the Final, Bas Lammers (Sodikart / TM) had built quite some confidence entering KZ2’s final race in Lonato. Despite a good start, the Dutchman quickly lost the lead to Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) before taking it back on lap 4 not to let it slip again out of his fingers. The pressure came from behind with Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Ardigo both pressuring Lammers until the finish line that they crossed almost together, split by around half a second. Fourth overall was the 2018 KZ2 International Supercup winner Matteo Vigano (Tony Kart / Vortex) in front of France’s rising-man Emilien Denner (Kalikart / TM).

The second round of the 2018 WSK Final Cup will take place on the Castelletto Di Branduzzo circuit on November 10-11.
