The final day of racing in Campillos unfolded in an electrifying atmosphere. On the demanding 1580-meter Andalusian circuit, drivers gave it everything to close out the first round of the season on a high note. With decisive Super Heats and fiercely contested Finals, tension was in the air from the very first laps to the final checkered flag.
OK. James Anagnostiadis Triumphs, Bättig Shines Despite Setback
Sunday’s Super Heats set the tone for the day. In Super Heat A, James Anagnostiadis (AUS), already on the comeback trail on Saturday, confirmed his return to form by taking the win ahead of Dries Van Langendonck (BEL), followed by Filippo Sala (ITA), Christian Costoya (ESP) and William Noah (GBR). A complicated moment saw Chiara Bättig (SUI), the standout of the weekend until then, involved in a collision with Kenzo Craigie (GBR), who unsuccessfully tried to overtake her.
In Super Heat B, Thibaut Ramaekers (BEL) was unstoppable, taking a commanding victory with over a one-second lead on Bastian Jensen (CAN), Daniel Zac (GBR), Lukasz Borys (POL), and Pierre Thomas (FRA) completed the top five.
The Final itself was dominated by James Anagnostiadis (AUS), who clinched the win and the fastest lap of the race. The Australian driver capped off a remarkable turnaround after a challenging start to the weekend. Dries Van Langendonck (BEL) took second, with Christian Costoya (ESP) and Thibaut Ramaekers (BEL) rounding out the top four.
Despite the earlier incident, Chiara Bättig (SUI) fought her way to an impressive fifth place in the Final. She also impressed this weekend by becoming the first woman in the modern era of FIA Karting to secure pole position in a direct-drive category in the European Championship. She follows in the footsteps of Lotta Hellberg, Ellen Lohr in the 1980s, and Sophie Kumpen in the 1990s.
OK-Junior. Baglin the Star of the Day
In the Junior category, it was Noah Baglin (GBR) who stole the spotlight. Already on pole after winning Super Heat A ahead of Iskender Zulfikari (TUR) finished second, ahead of Caleb William (AUS), Tom Luuk (NED), and Ilie Crisan (CAN), while Henry Dean (NED) took the win in Super Heat B ahead of Bosco Arias (ESP), Daniel Henry (GBR), and Caleb William (AUS).
Noah Baglin (GBR) followed through with a confident victory in the Final showing strong potential for the rest of the championship. Dean maintained that position behind the untouchable Baglin. Bosco Arias (ESP), Daniel Henry (GBR), and Caleb William(AUS) completed the top five. Notably, Ilie Crisan (CAN) in 6th who already held the event record from qualifying practice, was the fastest driver on track posting the fastest lap of the Final.
What’s Next?
With Campillos now in the rearview mirror, the focus shifts to the second round of the 2025 FIA Karting European Championship, taking place from May 1st to 4th in Portimão, Portugal.
For some, this first event was the perfect launchpad. It confirmed early-season form and sent a clear message. For others, it was a wake-up call and a chance to regroup and fight back.
